Sunday 27 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Sunday evening?
Partly clear skies after sunset will most likely allow starlight to be visible, but lots of high cloudiness will most likely be visible overnight as a result of jetstream-level moisture (illustrated below) along the jetstream over southern Ontario (illustrated below). Some breaks in the high cloud might occasionally cause skies to appear mostly clear before moonrise, but the high cloud will probably be easily visible under the bright moonlight.

Friday 25 December 2015

Will skies be clear Friday night over southern Ontario?

Skies are likely to become clear before sunset except for high cloud that may or may not be thick enough to appear as thin cloud. The persistent high cloudiness is flowing northeastward across southern Ontario with a strong Jetstream (illustrated below). Moisture at jetstream level might become thin over some regions (illustrated below for mid-evening) to allow the sky to be mainly clear, while at other times the high cloud may be more distinctly visible (particularly under the nearly full moon).

Thursday 24 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Thursday night?

Cloudy skies are expected, caused by moisture moving eastward across southern Ontario (illustrated below for mid to high-level moisture) beginning later Thursday afternoon, associated with an upper level weather disturbance. Cloud may be thin enough for the full moon to be easily visible early in the evening in some regions, especially in urban areas where the full extent of widespread high cloud may not be obvious, and give the impression of a partly clear sky.

Saturday 19 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday night?

Partly clear skies may develop during mid-evening as upper-level moisture and uplift move eastward. Some low-level cloudiness is likely as a result of low-level moisture (illustrated below) and lake-effect cloudiness flowing eastward from Lake Huron and this could cause partly, mostly or completely cloudy skies over southern Ontario overnight before increasing mid to high-level moisture begins to move across southern Ontario before sunrise Sunday.

Thursday 17 December 2015

Cloudy skies are likely to continue Thursday night. Although partly clearing skies are appearing during the afternoon following Thursday morning's cold front passage, an extensive layer of low-level moisture is forecast to cause continuing mostly cloudy skies over southern Ontario overnight.

Tuesday 15 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Tuesday night?

Partly clearing skies are possible, due to a high pressure ridge spreading eastward over northern and southern Ontario with dry air and subsidence that may cause the cloud layer over southern Ontario to subside and result in partly clear skies in some locations. However, the substantial layer of moisture is not likely to subside and disperse easily, and probably will remain as a low overcast layer due to a subsidence inversion caused by the subsiding air ahead of the high pressure ridge. The strengthening subsidence inversion (illustrated below) will most likely trap the low-level moisture and prevent skies from clearing.

In summary, skies are most likely to remain cloudy but clear breaks may develop over some locations.

Monday 7 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Monday night?

Cloudy skies and fog are likely to continue over most or all regions, due to extensive moisture trapped at low levels by a strong and persistent subsidence inversion, and winds are too light to mix out and disperse the low-level cloud. Some breaks in the cloud could develop, and allow stars to appear over some locations, but generally overcast conditions are more likely with fog developing again overnight in many regions.

Saturday 5 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday night?
It looks like the low-level cloud over southern Ontario will have a hard time dissipating during the afternoon and so there is a reasonable probability that low stratus will persist during the evening and cause partly cloudy skies in some regions and overcast skies in others, while skies could become clear in some areas. However, fog is likely to form overnight in most areas, and locations with clear skies will most likely be the first to become foggy.

Friday 4 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

Skies may become mostly clear by sunset, if the persistent low-level cloud over southern Ontario (trapped at low levels by a subsidence inversion) can dissipate. If the low-level cloud dissipates enough for skies to become mostly clear, then some high-level cloudiness may be visible, caused by a region of high-level moisture that is forecast to move southeastward over southern Ontario overnight (illustrated below for late evening).

Wednesday 2 December 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday night?

Mostly cloudy skies are expected, but skies may appear partly clear during the early evening in some locations where gaps in the mid-level cloudiness allow partly clear sky to be seen occasionally.

Monday 30 November 2015

Partly clear skies are likely during early Monday evening, except for increasing high clouds that may or may not be visible, as jetstream-level moisture begins moving eastward across southern Ontario (illustrated below for early evening). Increasing cloudiness is expected as mid-level (and lower) moisture moves over southern Ontario later in the evening.

Saturday 28 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday night?

Partly clear skies are likely as a result of a high pressure ridge building over the area, but partly cloudy skies are expected over southwestern regions as a result of jetstream-level moisture over southern Ontario, approximately west of GTA (illustrated below during early evening) and a strong jetstream which may have high-level clouds associated with it that may be easily visible in the bright moonlight. Also, mid-level moisture over southwestern regions near Lake Erie may cause mid-level cloudiness during the evening, and low-level cloudiness from Lake Huron flowing southward over southern Ontario may also cause some cloudiness.

Friday 27 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

Clearing skies are expected before sunrise over northern parts of southern Ontario as most of the cloudiness with Friday’s cold front moves southeastward overnight. High clouds may be visible in the bright moonlight due to jetstream-level moisture which will be over southern Ontario. Southwestern regions, approximately west of Lake Ontario, will most likely remain cloudy as mid-level moisture remains over that area until later Saturday (illustrated below for 4 am EST).

Wednesday 25 November 2015

It looks like skies may appear to be partly clear during the evening, particularly with a full moon in the sky, except for high cloudiness which is expected to increase overnight (illustrated below) until mid-level cloudiness causes mostly cloudy skies by sunrise Thursday (ahead of Thursday’s low pressure trough).

Tuesday 24 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Tuesday night?

Some medium or high-level clouds may be visible during the evening and then mostly clear skies are likely over most regions overnight. The illustrations below show the high-level moisture that may appear as mid-high level cloudiness during early evening and the mid-level moisture that may cause some cloudiness over southwestern regions later in the evening.

Sunday 22 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Sunday night?

Skies are likely to become mostly clear by sunset over most regions, except for more mid-level cloudiness west and and north of Lake Ontario during the early evening caused by a region of mid-level moisture (illustrated below during early evening) and then occasional patches of low-level cloudiness may appear over regions south and east of Lake Huron overnight, caused by a region of low-level moisture (illustrated below during late evening at 850 hPa level) as well as some lake-effect cloudiness from Lake Huron.

Friday 20 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

It looks like skies may remain partly or mostly clear over eastern parts of southern Ontario during early evening, but high-level moisture spreading eastward across southern Ontario (illustrated below) will most likely cause increasing high cloudiness to appear by mid evening. Further west, toward SW Ontario, skies will most likely be cloudy by sunset.

Thursday 19 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Thursday night?

Mostly clear skies are likely, except for some low-level cloudiness mainly during the first couple of hours after sunset, as afternoon cloudiness gradually dissipates under subsidence caused by a high pressure ridge extending northeastward over southern Ontario (illustrated below), and except for more low-level cloudiness east of Lake Huron, as a result of cool SW winds flowing across the warmer lake.

Monday 16 November 2015

Some high cloudiness may appear over southern Ontario overnight, caused by high-level moisture which is forecast to move eastward over southern Ontario (illustrated below during the evening) and skies could remain mostly clear over some regions.

Monday 9 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Monday night?

It looks like skies will remain clear until mid-level moisture ahead of a low pressure trough (moving northeastward toward southern Ontario) moves over southern Ontario beginning near Lake Erie during the evening and then over all of southern Ontario after midnight, illustrated below for late evening.

Sunday 8 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Sunday night?

Clear skies are forecast (and a high pressure ridge, subsidence, and dry air).

Saturday 7 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday night?
Mostly cloudy skies are expected during the evening over most regions due to an upper-level trough moving eastward across southern Ontario during the evening, and a region of mid-level moisture over southern Ontario during the evening (illustrated below). Later, overnight, gradually clearing skies are expected over most regions as the trough and moisture move eastward, and subsidence ahead of a high pressure ridge causes moisture and clouds to subside.

Friday 6 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?
Mostly cloudy skies are expected, due to a large area of low-level moisture (illustrated below) that is forecast to be over most regions of southern Ontario overnight, but occasional clear breaks are possible and may allow skies to appear partly or mostly clear from time to time over some locations.

Thursday 5 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Thursday night?

If skies appear clear during the early evening, increasing high cloudiness ought to cause skies to be cloudy by about mid-evening over most regions.

Wednesday 4 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday night?

Clear skies are expected during the evening until low-level cloudiness (and fog) develops after midnight over most regions, except earlier over some southwestern regions, caused by a region of moisture forecast to move northeastward over southern Ontario overnight (illustrated below after midnight). High humidity and calm winds will allow fog to form in the locations with lower elevations earlier in the evening.

Monday 2 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Monday night?

It looks like skies will be mostly clear, except for some scattered mid-level clouds that may be visible for several hours during early evening over regions near and north of GTA, due to a region of mid-level moisture (illustrated below) moving eastward across central Ontario during Monday afternoon.

Sunday 1 November 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Sunday night?

Skies are likely to be clear by sunset over most regions, except for regions near and north of GTA, where low-level moisture (illustrated below at 850 hPa level) will most likely cause some low-level clouds to be visible for several hours following sunset.
Later, mid to high-level clouds may appear over most regions of southern Ontario before sunrise as a result of high-level moisture (illustrated below at 500 hPa level) which is forecast to move eastward over southern Ontario. By then (early morning), fog is likely to develop over most regions of southern Ontario as a result of the humid air over southern Ontario during Sunday afternoon and night and diminishing winds by midnight.

Friday 30 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

It looks like skies will be mostly clear by sunset and then mostly cloudy before morning, due to moisture moving eastward over southern Ontario ahead of Saturday’s low pressure trough. The chart below illustrates the forecast mid-level moisture a few hours before sunrise, but moisture is forecast to be increasing at all levels overnight.

Monday 26 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Monday night?
Partly cloudy skies are likely over most regions, caused by a region of mid-level moisture which is forecast to move over southern Ontario (illustrated below), as well as high and low clouds that may appear from time to time, although skies may appear to be clear over some regions due to the appearance of the bright Hunter's Moon.

Sunday 25 October 2015

Will skies be clear Sunday night over southern Ontario?

Mostly clear skies are likely except for occasional periods of partly or mostly cloudy skies over some regions, caused by low-level moisture (illustrated below for late evening) which is forecast to move eastward across southern Ontario during the evening.

Thursday 22 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Thursday night?

Skies will likely be mostly clear by sunset and clear overnight, except for some evening low-level cloudiness over regions north of GTA caused by low-level moisture moving southeastward from southern Ontario (illustrated below for late evening) and except for increasing high-level cloudiness that may appear over southwestern regions before morning (ahead of a low pressure trough that is forecast to develop west of the Great Lakes).

Sunday 18 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Sunday night?

Skies are likely to be mostly clear by sunset  and then clear overnight, except for some low clouds that are likely to diminish during the early evening as low-level moisture (illustrated below) gradually moves southward from southern Ontario during the evening.

Saturday 17 October 2015

Will skies be clear Saturday night over southern Ontario?
It looks like partly clear and occasional cloudy periods is the best description for the forecast, since lots of low-level moisture is forecast to flow southeastward over southern Ontario, causing cloudiness over some locations, but more persistent mid-level moisture (illustrated below) is expected to cause more persistent cloudiness especially over regions south of Lake Huron.

Friday 16 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

It looks like skies ought to become mostly clear by evening, except for some clouds that may persist for several hours following sunset before dissipating, caused by cloudiness along a weak cold front that is forecast to move southeastward across southern Ontario Friday afternoon and southward from most regions of southern Ontario (illustrated below) by evening. Later Friday night or early Saturday, more moisture is forecast to move over southern Ontario and to cause mostly cloudy skies over some regions by early morning.

Sunday 11 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Sunday night?

Clear skies are likely over most regions, except for some scattered mid-level clouds that may appear occasionally during the evening  over regions north and east of GTA, caused by a weak region of mid-level moisture (illustrated below) moving eastward across southern Ontario during the afternoon and evening.

Saturday 10 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday might?

It looks like skies will be mostly clear except for high thin cloud caused by widespread moisture at jetstream-level (illustrated below) that will probably appear as cirrus cloud over most regions during the night, as well as some mid-level moisture over southern Ontario during the evening that will probably cause some mid-level clouds to be visible.

Friday 9 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

It looks like skies will become clear during the evening as low-level cloudiness dissipates after sunset. Overnight, increasing moisture at jetstream levels may cause high clouds to appear over most regions. Over regions south of Georgian Bay and near or north of the GTA, increasing low-level moisture after midnight may cause increasing low-level clouds to develop.

Wednesday 7 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday night?

Skies are likely to be mostly clear by sunset, except for diminishing patches of low-level clouds that could be visible over some southern regions. Gradually increasing jetstream-level moisture (illustrated below) may cause some high cloudiness to appear over some or most regions during the evening and increase by morning.

Tuesday 6 October 2015

Skies are likely to become partly clear by sunset, but enough moisture will  remain over southern Ontario (illustrated below for mid-level moisture, but widespread low-level moisture may be more noticeable) to cause partly cloudy skies overnight over most regions.

Thursday 1 October 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Thursday night?

It looks like clear skies overnight, except for some continuing scattered high clouds especially during the early evening over regions close to Lake Ontario.

Wednesday 30 September 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday night?

It looks like skies will have high-level clouds during the early evening, at least over regions near Lakes Erie and Ontario, and possibly over most regions of southern Ontario, due to a jetstream over southern Ontario (illustrated below over North America) and moisture along the jet especially over southern Ontario (illustrated below for early evening). Moisture may diminish overnight but may continue to cause visible high clouds over some or most regions.

Monday 28 September 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Monday night?

It looks like lots of moisture will be present to cause at least partly cloudy skies, but breaks in the clouds may allow skies to appear partly clear especially during the early evening. Low and mid-level moisture is forecast to be least during early evening (mid-level moisture illustrated below for 700 hPa level) but jetstream-level moisture will most likely cause high thin clouds that will probably be easily visible in the bright Harvest moonlight.

Sunday 27 September 2015

Will skies be clear Sunday night over southern Ontario?
Partly clear and partly cloudy is the best description, with mid-level moisture moving northward across southern Ontario (illustrated below) but enough clear breaks may occur over most regions to allow the full (and eclipsed) moon to be occasionally visible.

Saturday 26 September 2015

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday night?
The northern edge of a region of jetstream-level moisture (illustrated below with the output chart from one forecast model) will most likely be the dividing line across southern Ontario between clear skies to the north, and partly cloudy skies to the south due to high thin cloudiness that will probably be easy to see in the bright moonlight.

Friday 25 September 2015

Will skies be clear Friday night over southern Ontario?

Skies will probably appear to be mostly clear, except for some high cloudiness over most regions, and especially southwestern regions, caused by jetstream-level moisture (illustrated below) that may be visible in the bright moonlight, as well as some mid-level cloudiness that may appear over eastern regions of southern Ontario during the evening, caused by some mid-level moisture (illustrated below) that is forecast to be near or east of the GTA.
