Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday evening?

It looks like skies will remain mostly cloudy, due to low-level cloudiness. Although mid-level cloud will be diminishing, lots of low-level moisture will most likely result in lots of low-level cloudiness with occasional clear breaks over some regions.

Tuesday 28 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Tuesday night?
It looks like skies will become mostly clear, following passage of a cold front across southern Ontario Tuesday afternoon, except for patches of low-level moisture that will appear as scattered low clouds. The low clouds will cover more of the skies in northern regions of southern Ontario (near and east of Lake Huron), and less in southern regions near Lakes Erie and Ontario.

Monday 27 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Monday night?

It looks like skies will be partly cloudy after sunset and then cloudy later in the evening as increasing mid-high level moisture flows over southern Ontario (as shown on the chart below for moisture at the 700 hPa level) but increasing jetstream-level cirrus moving over southern Ontario during Monday afternoon will contribute to the cloudiness.

Saturday 25 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday night?

It looks like skies will be mostly clear by late afternoon, after a weak upper-level front moves eastward during the afternoon, except for some low-level clouds that may develop during the evening over most regions. Later, after midnight, some mid-level cloudiness may develop over regions approximately east of the Kitchener area (according to the latest forecast chart, shown below).

Thursday 23 October 2014

Will skies be clear Thursday night over southern Ontario?

It looks like skies are likely to be clear during the evening (as well as before sunset during the solar eclipse) and then increasing high-level cloudiness is likely to appear after midnight in southwestern regions and by dawn over eastern regions of southern Ontario, caused by jetstream-level moisture moving eastward over the central Great Lakes region ahead of a low pressure trough west of the Great L:akes during Thursday.

Wednesday 22 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday night?

Mostly clear skies are likely, except for some low-level cloud in some regions near the western Lake Ontario area, caused by moisture circulating westward over the Lake Ontario region from a low pressure trough near the Atlantic coast.

Saturday 18 October 2014

Will skies be clear Saturday night over southern Ontario?

It looks like mostly cloudy skies are likely, due to extensive low-level moisture resulting in low-level cloudiness, except for gradually clearing skies over southwestern regions after midnight. Over and south of Georgian Bay, the atmosphere will have sufficient moisture to remain cloudy all night, and regions of southern Ontario south and east of Georgian Bay will most likely remain mostly cloudy all night.

Friday 17 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

It looks like mostly cloudy skies are likely, caused by lots of moisture and uplift associated with an upper level trough over Ontario, except that some partly clearing skies may develop following the passage of an upper cold front overnight. The result is that most locations will be under cloudy skies except for some clearing skies for several hours over some locations.

Sunday 12 October 2014

Will skies be clear Sunday evening over southern Ontario?
It looks like skies will be mostly clear during the evening, except for jetstream-level moisture which is forecast to move northeastward across southern Ontario ahead of a warm front after sunset and may be visible as high clouds. Later in the evening, mid-level moisture and cloudiness is forecast to move over southern Ontario and may not cause noticeable widespread cloudiness until after midnight over eastern regions of southern Ontario (such as east of the Toronto area).

Saturday 11 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday night?

It looks like clear skies are likely by sunset, due to a high pressure ridge over southern Ontario, with daytime low-level cumulus clouds (that are causing some afternoon cloudiness over some regions) likely to dissipate by sunset.

Friday 10 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Friday night?

Mostly clear skies are likely, caused by subsidence under a high pressure ridge spreading eastward over the Great Lakes region, but several sources of moisture may cause some cloudiness to be visible in the bright moonlight.

Low-level moisture near western Lake Ontario during the early evening (shown on the forecast chart below) may cause some low-level clouds over some locations. Another potential source of clouds is a frontal zone south of Ontario, and high-level cirrus clouds that are visible over southern Ontario during Friday afternoon may cause visible high cloudiness overnight, especially over southwestern regions.

Thursday 9 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Thursday night?

It looks like skies will be gradually clearing during the evening as extensive afternoon cloudiness dissipates, but conditions are suitable for cool upper-level air flowing across the relatively warm water surfaces of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay to create low-level cloudiness and transport it eastward across southern Ontario. So, some periods of cloudiness can be expected throughout the night in regions east of Lake Huron while mostly clear skies are likely in southwestern regions south of Lake Huron.

Wednesday 8 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday night?

Skies are likely to become mostly clear by sunset over most regions, as a high pressure ridge builds eastward over the western and southern Great Lakes regions, while an upper level low over northern Ontario maintains some moisture and cloudiness north of southern  Ontario. Light (not calm) winds ought to prevent fog formation over regions with moist ground, and there should be no problem seeing the Hunter’s Moon.

Tuesday 7 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Tuesday night? More specifically, during the total lunar eclipse near morning twilight?

It looks like skies may be clearing over southern Ontario after midnight, following passage of a cold front. Southern Ontario may be ideally located in the zone of subsidence for several hours that follows the cold front and will most likely be causing clouds to dissipate and leave at least partly clear skies by the time of the eclipse. The clearing appears to be more favourable west of Toronto and less favourable east of Toronto, but all regions may see occasional clear periods at some time before Wednesday morning.

Monday 6 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Monday night?

It looks like skies will be mostly cloudy during the evening, due to a region of mid-level moisture and uplift moving over southern Ontario, and then mostly clear between midnight and dawn after the region of moisture moves northeastward from southern Ontario.

Saturday 4 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Saturday might?

Partly cloudy skies are likely, with lots of moisture in the atmosphere, but regions of subsidence will be causing periods of clearing skies over many regions overnight. So, most regions should expect partly or mostly clear skies with some cloudy periods.

Wednesday 1 October 2014

Will skies be clear over southern Ontario Wednesday evening?
Skies are likely to be overcast with low cloud over most regions, except for possible clearing over some southwestern regions, due to extensive low-level moisture remaining trapped below a low-level subsidence inversion.
